Nelson was born into a Christian family. His dad dedicated him to God through the commitment of water baptism on September 28, 1969, when he was about 2 years old. He made a personal commitment to follow Jesus Christ and accepted Him as a personal saviour in 1989, at the age of 22. In 1991, while attending a Christian youth camp in NUS, he knew in his heart that God had called him to serve him full-time in mission work overseas. Nelson is answering the call to move out of his comfort zone and security as a MOE-trained teacher to serve in Malaysia.

Bee Bee received Christ when she was 17 years old at ACJC. She grew spiritually in a Campus Crusade for Christ Ministry and Fairfield Methodist Church. During her early years as a teacher in a primary school in Singapore, she joined three other fellow teachers on a short-term mission trip overseas. She was impressed by God’s work through His people in a foreign land. Since then, she feels that she could be more involved in teaching children to know more about God.

As a couple, Nelson and Bee Bee served as Sunday school teachers at Fairfield Methodist Church from 1992 to 2005 for 14 years. God led them to grow and then serve as cell leaders in Faith Community Baptist Church from 2006 to 2014 for 9 years. In October 2014, Nelson and Bee Bee transferred their membership to Bartley Christian Church and joined a cell group. Nelson started serving as an assistant cell leader in 2015 and has been the cell leader since August 2022.

Nelson and Bee Bee decided that they should leverage part of their year-end teachers’ vacation for short-mission trips. In 2019, through the arrangement of then Bartley’s Missions Director, Charles Ho, both Nelson, Bee Bee, and a few cell members went to Chai Prakan, Northern Thailand, to conduct a teacher workshop on a community engagement effort with Wycliffe Thailand.

After the COVID-19 travel restriction, Nelson and Bee Bee continued with their yearly year-end short-mission trips in 2022 and 2023. God opened doors for both of them and their cell members to share Jesus with the children in remote villages in Klang coastal regions and off-shore islands. During their teaching programmes, Nelson and Bee Bee were encouraged to see children raising up their hands to receive Jesus as their personal saviour during their altar calls. The children were ready to learn about God and sing worship songs with gusto.

Nelson decided to resign from MOE as Head of Department in December 2023 to serve full-time in Klang with Good News Community Church Hokkien for 6 years. Bee Bee, who is also a MOE-trained teacher, has decided to serve alongside Nelson in the children's ministry in Klang.

Currently, God has opened more doors for them to support ministry work involving both adults and children in Selangor. Nelson would be starting an English-speaking adult cell group comprising cell leaders who serve in the Hokkien speaking community in Selangor. Both of them would also be helping to start a new outreach venue and community engagement programme in a separate island village. This new venue will provide tuition programmes for children, serve as a preaching point, a centre for food distribution to the poor, and a prayer house.
