Michael is the country director of SIM Singapore. SIM, or Serving in Mission’s vision, is to send disciples to the unreached communities where Christ is least known. It places 4000+ workers among hundreds of local communities in more than 70 nations.

His role is to mobilise Singaporean churches and believers to respond to the Great Commission and to go cross-cultural as missionaries or professionals, especially to the unreached communities across the globe. This can be either long-term or short-term exposure.
​
He took on this role in July 2021 after leaving corporate life, and his last held role was director and general manager at the Science Centre. He also served as a lay pastor and elder chair of Bartley Christian Church. He was also chair of its community arm, Bartley Community Care Services. He is currently on the board of the Asian Cross Cultural Training Institute and the Dr. Andrew Ng Global Mission Fund.

His daughter, Elizabeth, resides in the US, with her husband Jon Ong.
